Just be very careful when feeding raw......there are downfalls to it. Bacteria can make your dogs very sick if you are not careful. Salmonella is very poisonous for humans and dogs alike......raw is ok with some breeds but not for others. Dachshunds are known to have sensitive stomachs, so please take this into consideration before going totally raw!! Just my opinion and from what I have learned with the doxies!!
I have a list of stuff not good for our babies on my website!

Raw eggs
Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). This can lead to skin and hair coat problems. Raw eggs may also contain Salmonella.

Re: Raw diet Book: Going Raw
Dry dogfood can have lots of bacteria too and salmonella..YUCK!
Safely handling food is important for humans and dogs..If I wouldn't cook it up and eat it,I wouldn't feed it to my dog....Yes,I have heard of people giving way bad meat...not a good idea..gross..lol...
Knowlege is the key when feeding ANY diet

Re: Raw diet Book: Going Raw
Yes you are right about poor dry food......research it first before ever feeding it!!
I feed raw bones to my dogs monthly for their teeth.
I can't justify feeding raw meat to them tho.....especially if you order the premixed stuff. That is scary to me......dog food is processed and what I feed......there has not been a recall on as far as I know of. My dogs have never gotten sick from it.
I just know a few breeders that feed raw and since they have fed it......have lost 3 puppies to illnesses from bacteria! Of course it is hard to determine the exact source......but I have my suspicians.
I'm not saying don't feed raw......I'm just saying research and be careful......just like with any food! Educate yourself!!

Re: Raw diet Book: Going Raw
I buy HUMAN Grade meats/bones,I don't buy anything pre-mixed or pre-ground.I buy their meat where I buy mine..lol.....I would love to feed 100% raw,but honestly..I don't have the money to do it...lol...
What I rambled on before I got a chance to say was...Research,anything.research the treats you feed and the toys you buy too!
