Should you breed after a C-Section - should you register that litter?

Should you breed after a C-Section? should you get to register that litter? - someday you may not have that choice Smile

The activity follows new rules by the Kennel Club in Great Britain to deny registration from puppies born by a mother who has had two previous c-sections after January 2012.

Hmm in dachshunds I would never breed a third time if the dog had two previous c-sections....I would be hesitant breeding after one, but it would depend on the reason why the dog had to have their first c-section. As for other breeds though in my understanding a c-section is fairly common in breeds such as the bull dog breeds because their heads are so large, so in that sense this law is ridiculus.

I wouldn't breed after a c-section. I would turn that c-section into a spay. To me, it's too much of another health risk to do a 2nd c-section. But some breeds are more prone to c-sections. So, not being able to register pups from a c-section is nonsense, in my opinion.

I agree with D&A. Not all C-Sections are alike, and shouldn't be treated as if they are. If a bitch's pelvis is too small to pass puppies normally in breeds that aren't known for that problem, then yes, first time would be a spay. If a puppy is turned sideways and blocking up the works, or two puppies are trying to pass at once (or you have one enormous puppy), but she could have passed them with normal presentation, then I'd breed her again. I hate legislation like this, that treats all situations as identical, when there are extenuating circumstances that need consideration. The thing is, most breeders take those circumstances into consideration ANYWAY. C-Sections aren't cheap, and they're scary as hell, with the possibility of losing mom and/or puppies, so we're not breeding a bitch over and over who will need a section every time. Rolling Eyes

I have a female that had 2 previous csections when I got her. I bred her and she delivered 6 babies on her own with no difficulties!! I didn't even have to assist!! Every puppy lived and turned out wonderfully!! Angie has Ireland and Nic is in Canada!! It definately all depends on the circumstances on "WHY" the csection was needed!!!!
