APRI to AKC,CKC to AKC??

I didn't want to high-jack the other topic,so I wanted to know a few more things....

Ok,so I mentioned that I only give CKC's to most pet puppies nowadays,but in order to get their puppy registered with the AKC,wouldn't they need the parents AKC Numbers??I'm confused....I do give the certificate to new owners and it has parents CKC numbers,full names etc(Which are double registered with AKC)

Ok,so now I'm starting to think to also hold back registration until proof of alteration is given,but what proof would I give them that their dog is pure-bred & registered without making them feel like they are getting ripped off...since I do say registration apps. go with puppy...


...And if someone out there got a puppy registered with AKC out of my 2 parents,wouldn't it show up in the AKC online area for records??Or how would that work...I'm just a little worried now that people get pet only puppies and will turn around and get full privelages!

I give them copies of the pedigree but blacken out the numbers for the parents....so they know they are purebred! I also wait til proof of spay/neuter before giving them the papers.
CKC is funny "Continental".........it's been awhile for me for a ckc litter but the last one I had......there was no choice when giving the reg papers for ltd, full, or pet!! So anyone with the papers could of bred the puppies. No papers til altered.....no chances of puppies then!

I can't help you on some of the other things. Since I am not totally clear on it. Other than......AKC can do a research on the dog to see if it has atleast 3 generations of AKC reg dogs.....then they will reg your dog AKC......now they are suppose to email the breeder for permission......but who knows if they actually do!?

Oh,Ok..I like the idea of blacking out the registration numbers on pedigrees!....I cut the whole rectangle out for limited AKC's..Blackening them is aweful,you can still read the numbers there if you look hard enough..lol..

But if you have the full names you can research them if you know what you're doing and find them on Pawvillage, Rabow's etc!!

My CKC boy's parents were given CKC numbers, but when I sent that to AKC it was matched to the right AKC dogs, I am assuming since there was an AKC litter registered to those 2 for that DOB. Have done the same with an APRI pup and the litter was never AKC registered but I knew the parents were, was told by the breeder, so I sent in his papers with an APRI pedigree with all APRI numbers and they were able to match him up!

Yeah CKC doesn't let you choose limited or full so we hold all papers AKC and CKC until proof of alteration is done. We show them the papers when they pick their puppy up so they know they are purebred, but we wait to send them to them until we get proof from their vet that they were altered. I have heard though that if you pay a yearly fee you can choose between limited and full registration with them, but just holding the papers is easier and saves money

if you look at the registration for CKC you'll see that to get papers all you have to do is submit three photos of the dog, past 6 months of age with the dogs info and they will give papers. Withholding CKC papers is no guarantee of not breeding. With AKC, all they have to do is register the pup CKC, also if you look at the local ads there are plenty of dogs that are being sold "no papers", I'm sure plenty of those were bought as pets with registration withheld. None of it is foolproof in any way.

The only part I am worried about is giving someone a discount for pet only,NO AKC...and them turning around and getting AKC with full privelages without my permission...

I think that is what WE ALL worry about!!

Could they do that if the litter was never even registered to begin with?

oooh,that's a good question...I think they can if they get ahold of the parents AKC #'s(If anyone else knows different let us know,please).....So from now on ,pets only will get pedigrees WITHOUT parents akc/ckc 3#'s...I'll black them out of just type up new pedigrees...

But maybe I won't even give pedigrees,I'll show parents certificates to prove purebred,but explain they don't get papers.....?????Not sure yet..I guess I'm going to see how it goes..

I do know AKC wont allow you to register a ckc dog with them unless its one you bred. Say you take a ckc dog and buy it from someone they wont allow that. But if you can prove that dogs parents were akc and that you are wanting to register one of their pups akc you can do that. Since it is a dog you bred. You don't even need the akc numbers of the grandparents of your ckc dog just their names that match their akc names. Basically you bred the pup...the mother is ckc but her parents were akc you can register that puppy akc because you bred it.
