Dog Food & what you use :)
I took the below from my Besties post I Value her opinion more than mine, so hers comes first
We use Purina Pro Plan - have for numerous years - my guys love the shredded and woof it down. I haven't noticed a difference in their eating habits or coats. Seems to still be doing good.
I use Purina because everytime their is a recall in food, their product seems to never be re-called. Keeping my fingers crossed. This is the biggest reason for me using it and it works well and my guys love it. I mix it with Science diet T/D.
If I had my choice and tons of time and $$$ on my hands, I would feed a raw diet. We feed Raw chicken on a regular basis's to help with teeth cleaning. Their are many stories on feeding Raw 12 hours after dry, but we free feed kibble and give raw chicken when I catch a great sale...The dogs love it.
I've fed Pro Plan for approximately 10 years...my Aussies get Adult Chicken & Rice, and my doxies get either Puppy Chicken & Rice or Performance. In the last 10 years, I have tried a few other "better" foods, but I have always come back to Pro Plan.
In the last 10 years, I have regularly fed between 20-30 dogs at all times, plus boarders with no issues. Pro Plan is also entirely American-made, so there have been no issues and no recalls in the last few years.
I am an Animal Science major, so I realize Pro Plan is technically not the "best" food out there, but based on my own observations plus the repeated positive comments regarding the overall condition of my dogs and their coats from customers, vets, and judges over the years...if it ain't broke, I ain't gunna fix it!

Most of my dogs don't like the Pro Plan We usually feed Eukanuba dachshund formula, it makes their poops firm which I like, and dosen't make it have a real noticeable odor. When our females are pregnant or their is pups around we have to switch to Pedigree or Purina puppy formula. The Eukanuba puppy formula is really high in protein and always makes our adults sick.

Alex have you tried the small breed Pro Plan formula?
I also have gone back & forth with numerous foods and I keep returning to Pro Plan!! Yes it does give my aussie gas....LOL....but everyone here loves the beef & rice formula...the chicken gave them more gas.....the small breed puppy is what I feed all my babies on and I have used the Performance before and loved it, but it turned my creams a shade of red....YUCK! I love Pro Plan and everyone always remarks on how SOFT and nice my dogs coats are!! My smooths feel like silk and all my adults feel like rabbits fur!! So Pro Plan gets an A++++++++ from me and I just can't help but staying with it. It is also cheaper at Pets Supplies Plus by $9 than Tractor Supply and I normally have $3 or $5 coupons to use. Also after every 10 bags I get a free one at Pet Supplies Plus!!! And I love their puppy packs that they give you!!! I have also got for free 2 extremely nice chairs from using my points on the sides of the bags. I take these chairs to the dog shows with me now to sit on!!!! They were 2500 pts and shipping & handling was free!! They are not cheap chairs and are super nice quality!!!!

We were feeding Diamond Naturals Ck and Rice Adults, and Diamond Naturals Sm Breed Puppy. The puppies did great on it, but the adults not so much. They love the taste and keep weight on nicely, their coats were suffering a bit. Did lots of research and we are switching to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and Puppy formula as well. Puppies were just switched over, adults will finish the transition in a day or 2. I'll let ya know how it goes. We also feed raw chicken occasionally, and as deer season is upon us we will be feeding some venison as well!

Angie I fed Chicken soup also for awhile...it is really good food....a bit pricey but good! The only difference I noticed....was my pups were a bit leaner than I liked...so I switched back to Pro Plan and the pups are much fatter again....not sure if it was the food or the mama's.....LOL!!!
Re: Dog Food & what you use :)
Well down here the Chicken Soup is the same or a bit cheaper than the Pro Plan, LOL so we will see. Mine need to be a little leaner though, I have some chunky butts
Re: Dog Food & what you use :)
I think the only version of Pro Plan that I've tried is the chicken and rice formula. Lucy refuses to eat it LOL. When she was having weaning problems we figured out that that's what it was because while she was at my parents while Hollie still had her pups we would feed her the Nutro and Pro plan and tried everything with it and wouldn't touch it, but the days I took her over to Darrens to visit the first thing she would do was run over to the puppies' food bowl and eat everything LOL. I do need to try another puppy formula food though because I don't think pedigree is the best nutritional-wise for them...although all of thier coats are super soft
Re: Dog Food & what you use :)
i been trying to changed my parents mind and sweep away from the walmart/kmart brands like pedigree or olroy and get something a little better. I think diamond its reasonable, but they think its not big deal.or that im exaggerating since before i wouldnt care about their nutrition, but now that i done my research, i wanna get whats good for them. Its like if i would be eating great value foods from walmart all the time...plus i know its nearly impossible to change someones mind.

I go back and forth between a few foods. I like Acana or Orijen, a lot, but the food is really pricey. I've been feeding Solid Gold Just a Wee Bit, but just switched over the last week to Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice. I've heard good things about it, so I'm giving it a try. I get 2 1/2 more pounds of food for about $1.00 more, too, so that's nice.
Re: Dog Food & what you use :)
I use purina one vibrant maturity (7 years old and over) for my adults and pups. It has the same protein as puppy formula (28%) but less fat and more fiber. My dogs stools are always firm and my dogs do well with this. My puppies are getting the protein they need but with dachshunds i do not feel they need as much fat because of their backs. It also has the extra glucosamine for their joints. Plus the kibble is small like small breed formula in pro plan.

The kibble we feed is Kirkland signature chicken and rice for the adults and pups/mommas get Kirkland signature puppy..These are both foods rated above average A+ with scores over 100%...But we occasionally mix in(And also recomend)purina pro-plan selects-puppy turkey/barley formula...These foods work great for the health of the dogs and our budget as well
