The PetLand nearest me is under new management and apparently the new management has something to do with AKC. They are now inspected and are allowed to sell AKC puppies and merch.
What do you guys think about this? I'm against puppy stores, so I was wondering why the AKC would be doing this.

It will be interesting to watch and see what happens. I'm all for someone helping fix the problem. Just hoping they buy from reputable breeders and I also think that the parents should have passed appropriate testing before the puppies are allowed to be sold.

One of my rescues (now deceased, sadly) was from a Petland here in upstate NY. Not sure about other Petlands, but the one Gunther came from sold AKC pups. Gunnie was purchased by an idiot woman as a gift for her husband... two months later the guy died & the idiot woman kept the pup tied to a tree in the yard when she was at work all day & crated at night. She finally had the brains to surrender him to a shelter when he was 7 months old... & I had the good fortune to find him there. He came complete with AKC registration paperwork (had never been completed by the idiot, & I never registered him, didn't matter to me).

I traced Gunnie to a puppymill in Missouri. AKC doesn't care what they register, so long as they get their fee.

Unfortunately Karen Ann is totally right about this! These puppy millers buy up pups with AKC papers cheap and then can AKC their litters all they want. AKC doesn't care if they are a puppy millers and neither does any other registration for that matter. It is a dog registered and money in their pockets and that's all they care about!!! Sad pale Evil or Very Mad
