Yorkie Puppies
Lexi has taken on 3 new puppies to raise with her litter...Adorable little Yorkies! Thier momma developed mastitis when they reached 2 days old and had started hand feeding.
Despite feeding them every 2 hours they were losing weight fast...1 1/2 - 2 ounces in a day. A mutal friend posted for help on an email list for shows to see if anyone was willing to nurture these girls back to health acting quickly we got them here at 3 days old.
Upon introduction, Lexi had no problem taking them in as her own - she even kicks her bigger puppies out of the way so the smaller ones can get some milk. They have been here for 2 days and have already gained 2-3 oz each - her own puppies are steadily gaining as well. Her meals have been tripled so she can continue producing all that yummy milk for all 7 puppies. I am watching all of them closely in case they need to be supplemented as well.....I am so very proud of her for taking on the extra responsibility:
Even though all these puppies are spoken for, I will keep updating as they mature

Even though they are not very active right now - you can see how much smaller they are compared to the doxies

I encouraged their owners to sign in for the chat so I can add them as a moderator to answer any questions people may have about Yorkies - I hope they do as I know nothing about the breed which makes this a learning time for me too ...I am glad you guys have owned them before - it was a shock to me to see their tails docked - I didn't know you did that for them until I looked up pictures

Re: Yorkie Puppies
yeah usually the tails are done by age of three days old. Not a fun process but it is necessary though if you want them to look like true yorkies and professionally taken care of.

Re: Yorkie Puppies
Thanks guys - I have been really enjoying having them here. Their human momma came over and helped me take all of their pictures, clip the barbs off the nail tips and handled the puppies - they think they are going to keep Izzy.

Re: Yorkie Puppies
They are definitely a Yorkie mix.....mom is mixed with ?? probably Shih Tzu and dad is a purebred Yorkie. I see the resemblance of both breeds in them taking more after mom than dad.
They are sooo different than the dachshunds - they seem to segregate themselves from them as well when they are motoring about. Its funny when Izzy goes to the food pan - she starts out tasting it then moves over to where one is munching down trying to crowd them out of the way and if that fails she will climb inside the pan to chow down her portion covering it from the rest Emma and Lowla are growlers...they growl during play, in their sleep and when the dachshund puppies get too rough with them - its hard to say when they aren't growling
