Is there truly a pet population problem?
That’s why international importation, breeding and puppy mills still do so well, because people want certain kinds of pets and shelters might not be able to fulfill their needs. “You’re not going to make people take animals they don’t want,” Miller says. “And if they can’t get it here, they’re going to go somewhere else to get it.”

Re: Is there truly a pet population problem?
I thought the above was an interesting article. I was on Craigslist when the new Austin law went into effect. 50.00 has to be payed to the city for every pet (dog/cat) including puppies/kittens sold that are intact.

So, It looks like people don't really care about the new laws going into effect because they know they can get a pet elsewhere. These new laws just don't really seem to be helping the shelters.

Thats fine, I'll just import my pet in. No-one is making me buy a shelter/rescue with issues.
