Aunt Mellie's School Cake

This one has been in the family for over 70 years...I hope your family enjoys this as much as my own family does. Happy New Year to all of you!

Aunt Mellie's School Cake:
1 C. Oatmeal (quick)
1/4 C. Oil
1 1/4 C. Boiling water
Mix above and let stand 20 minutes
1 C. Gran Sugar
1 C. Brown Sugar
2 Eggs (beaten)
1 1/2 C. Flour
1 teasp. Baking Soda
1 Teasp. Cinnamon
1/2 Teasp. Nutmeg
Pinch of salt
Mix all the above ingredients and put into a greased 13x9 inch cake pan

Bake 350 degrees for 35 minutes

Topping:
6 Table. Butter
1/2 C. Sugar
1/4 C. Milk
1/2 Teasp. Vanilla
1 C. Coconut
1 C. Chopped Nuts

Mix Topping ingredients together and ice cake while hot and place back in oven under broiler long enough to brown the top.
