Sad Day Empty Sad Day

Post  runarabbit Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:01 am

One of my puppies has a heart murmur Sad ... it's so sad, she will need surgery to fix the problem. I'm still getting more information on it, but it has to do with her heart & the tubes. If she makes it thru surgery, they say she has a good chance of living a normal life.

They say it is congenital and is caused by the recessive gene. It has been a couple of stressful days. Been breeding for over 13 years and this is a first for me. It's been sooo hard. Wish this was something that could be tested for, but it's not Sad

I know this is sad to deal with...

How old is the puppy?
Sometimes they grow out of them....

So sorry to hear this Sherry.....saying prayers for the puppy and all who is involved!! Sometimes they can outgrow them but if they are severe then surgery is needed!
Sherry this is something that just may be the result of just those 2 parents paired. If you have never had this with them bred to others then it can be avoided by just not breeding those 2 ever again. Good Luck hun and many (HUGS) your way!! Sad

I have been researching and this is a first time breeding for the mom..Dad has sired numerous litters over the years. I'm keeping him with his older women that we know work, but will get the mom spayed.

I tried to ask her owner if this is something that we could hold off of for a month (i was thinking she would grow out of it), but the specialist thinks she needs the surgery right away. If she was here, we would be doing it a little different, but she has another owner, so she is electing the immediate surgery. My hands are tired.

I'm not saying either method is wrong or right, I'd just like to give her a chance to grow out of it, but they don't think she will, so they are electing immediate surgery. i wish i was brushed up on cardiology, but unfortunately, this is my first round and were just playing everything out daily.

It will all work out in the end, it's just a stressful road Smile Thank you all for the prayers. You know me. been researching for 2 days straight.

As sad as it is,some vets are in in for the $$ and they want immediate treatments done instead of holding off....Maybe her owners would seek a second opinion...(Just a thoughough exam by another vet)

We once took a puppy in to get a flight certificate and they said he had a murmer, needed an EKG and most likely surgery within the WEEK! I was floored!
I sought a second opinion, next day got into another vet and he checked out just fine, nothing was wrong with him at all, once he reached his new family(Across the country)They also had their vet take a look at him and he was just fine!

Our prayers are with you as well,I hope it's not as serious as it's made out to be Sad
