Puppy weights Empty Puppy weights

I wasn't sure where else this topic fit in... Having never owned a Dachshund before i am unsure of what weight is a "good" or average weight for such and such an aged puppy. Its something that i learned over time with my pomeranians and there are also helpful weight estimate charts for toy breeds on the internet. Usually a pom tops out at about 7 months old, sometimes they gain another pound.

My Dash is 6 months and 7 pounds now, i don't know if that is big or small for that age. Being a show prospect i am obviously worried about him going over weight and having a harder time finishing.

I do know certains lines mature at differant rates so there is no perfect answer to my question. But if anyone could share their experience with puppy weights i am sure it would be very helpful for me Smile

I am thinking that sounds about right or average for that age. I would guess he won't get bigger than 10 lbs. Of course no one can say for sure since they all come from a standard gene along the lines....but mine that get bigger than 11 lbs usually are 5-7lbs by 10-12 wks....LOL!!! Very Happy

Kaleena, that's a perfect weight for a mini at that age. Just as an example, my two girls are 5 1/2 months, and Junebug weighs 7 pounds on the nose and Cricket is 10 pounds already. Cricket WILL go over-probably will end up at 12 pounds. Junie will likely top out at 9 to 9 1/2 pounds. I would expect your boy to be around 9 pounds or a little more if he's 7 at 6 months. Perfect size for a male.

Thanks for the input, that gives me a better idea of what is typical for a mini.

I just wanted to add, that certain lines mature later than others and sometimes they take a whole 2 years to fill in completely(Gain muscle tone, etc)
Since he's a show prospect boy,I take it you know about his abckground,etc...Research his parents and grandparents...

But he does sound about right at that age for a mini Smile
