Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET : http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/02/17/dangers-of-early-pet-spaying-or-neutering.aspx

A cohort study of shelter dogs conducted by the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University concluded that infectious diseases were more common in dogs that were sterilized at less than 24 weeks of age.

Results—Prepubertal gonadectomy did not result in an increased incidence of behavioral problems or problems associated with any body system, compared with traditional-age gonadectomy, during a median follow-up period of 48 months after gonadectomy. Rate of retention in the original adoptive household was the same for dogs that underwent prepubertal gonadectomy as those that underwent traditional- age gonadectomy. Infectious diseases, however, were more common in dogs that underwent prepubertal gonadectomy.
Conclusions and Clinical Implications—With the exception of infectious diseases, prepubertal gonadectomy may be safely performed in dogs without concern for increased incidence of physical or behavioral problems during at least a 4-year period after gonadectomy. Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
Some how I believe this! This is why I tell people to wait til 5-6mths before spay/neuter!
Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
I tell them to neuter between 6-7 months of age...lol. That you want your dog to get a little muscular before neutering and spaying.

Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
My spay/neuter contract specifies that I request (not require) that they wait to neuter their pet until after one year of age. That gives the growth plates time to close and the sex hormones to do their job in regulating growth. I personally don't think a dachshund is fully mature until around two, but I feel like after one is enough time not to endanger the puppies. I won't stop them if they neuter early, but I do explain why I ask them to wait.
Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
Neuter must be given to dog after 6-7 month and that is correct.

Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
I tell my new owners to wait til the dog is just about done growing, that way the hormones can aid in proper growth and development.
Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
I tell all my puppy buyers to wait until they are 6 months old, but I still get some that do it around 3 months! Spaying/neutering while they are still puppies just seems kind of sketchy to me, and definately doesn't sound healthy at all. I was watching Animal Cops one day, and they busted this old poodle breeder....more like hoarder....and they took the spay/neuter vehicle to his home and they were doing spays/neuters on like 3-5 week old puppies! I was appalled! I understand they don't want more unnecessary puppies being produced by ignorant people, but that just seems like its doing more harm than good to the animals.
Re: Don’t Neuter Your Dog YET
Spay and neuter for me was like taboo until my foster got spayed a few weeks ago. She acts as she would, but she wont have puppies anymore, and i guess its a good thing, who doesnt like puppies?but if they arent going to find good homes better to avoid an unwanted pregancy. The male dachshund in the other hand still intact, we been thinking of breeding him, at least so we could get one of the puppies, but we will see. I dont mind to get him neutered, but its not my call.
