Thunder Storms and dogs ??
Do you guys think when a dog is really affraid of thunder storms you should hold them and cuddle or do you think that makes them more affraid ????
My poor River was on the couch with me on my chest with his little head under my chin shaking today when it was thundering and i always cuddle him and tell him its ok and then thought wonder if he thinks i am also affraid when i cuddle and say its ok I cant help but hold him he looks so sad at me like help mom that thunder is going to get me !!!

We ignore them and the dogs ignore them....I think it may have something to do with their fear if you make a big deal out of it..

I hold mine as well. I don't think it hurts them to hold them...all it does is gives them comfort. If they get nervous and want down i let them down as well...but i feel if one is afraid you should do what they need as far as comfort if that means holding them or letting them down to go hide.

Thanks guys this is the first time i have had a dog that did not like storms my other two sleep like they dont hear a thing but my poor River does not like it thats for sure !!

We don't cater to them when there is a storm here but we do have to make sure our 14yr old mix breed Jewel is inside near us or she will tear a door down to get near us. As long as she is in the house during them......she is fine. My doxies don't seem to mind them.
