Post  doxiesmom Wed May 11, 2011 10:50 am

I bred my blk/tan piebald soft wire (Magic) with my blk/tan piebald LH ( Walker). Now I know that he is the only one because she would not let anyone breed her so I bred by AI, also is the only male I have who throws the extreme piebalds, also they both carry for dilute. This is what I got, 1 choc/tan piebald, and 2 that were almost all white. Its the color on the 2 whites that has me stumped. At first I thought is was going to be isabella, but their noses are blk.
Here are some pics of them, can someone tell me what the color is. It looks like a shade of red, but that should be impossible with 2 bk/tn parents.

Do the parent's carry the "e" gene. They could be "ee" red extreme pies

I don't know, Magic's pedigree is mostly red, wheaten and chocolate. Walker's is mostly blk, dilute and chocolate.
How would I tell if they carried the "e" gene?

The only way to tell for sure was if you got "ee" red puppies from them. Since the two are 99% white it causes some problems LOL

They look like ee reds to me. Mrs.Heather @ Fairfield Dachshunds had a litter of ee red wires and they look like your boys.
They're cuties! Smile

Real Cuties happy Very unique!

If I am not mistaken, based on Eridox genetic info, they have to be "ee" because breeding 2 pointed dogs can only produce pointed puppies. But, the "ee" gene masks everything so did not allow the points to be seen. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

I would email Lisa Hutchinson from her Eridox site and ask her opinion. She also just published her genetic book on dachshund coats, colors, and patterns. Many of us have waited a long time for this book. It is called "Weinepedia". I am waiting for my autographed copy now Very Happy

It is going to be fun to watch them develop further. Please keep posting pics for us Smile

Here is a link to Lisa's book - you have to sign up or log in to order it. The price is 38.00 but I am not sure if that includes shipping or not - I would love to order the book but all my money went into the cabinet I am building.

Your right Deb.....The pups are ee reds. Points are recessive and has to be at^at for a black/tan. With both parents being black/tan - points is all they have to offer. So they should have produced all black/tans (at^at) but adding in the ee gene both parents must be at^at E^e since they show color and produced these pretty babies. The puppies show recessive red but are genetically black/tans: at^at ee so they too will have only points to offer on the A series Wink

I agree with everyone else from my understandings anyways........Lisa Emerson is who wrote that book, she is Eridox......I also ordered my signed copy!! Lisa is a great person to learn from. We talk quite a bit and she has 4 more books in the makings.....her next released one is on the SPINE.....I will be buying that one also.......she really helped me understand what my poor Buddy went thru!! Lisa is extremely busy......if you do consult her on colors for dogs....sometimes she does charge a small fee depending on how elaborate of an answer you want from her.......her time is precious......LOL!! She not only is trying to get all her books printed & published....she is also a full time student!
We don't always agree on everything....but we agree to disagree and why our friendship means that much more to me......she doesn't care for the conformation in show dogs.....more the hunting and trial structure for them. She still has some super nice dogs and she is really a funny person!!

Kay these pups are gorgeous......I would love to have one for a pet only......everyone knows how I feel about silkies......LOL.....but I must say.....if I was to own one.....it would be a pet only and have to look like these ones.........OMG I love all that white!!!! SHHHHH......don't tell the "show people" I love the white dachshunds.........LMBO!!! tongue happy

Thanks everyone. I went to Lisa's sit and ordered her book. Hopefully I will understand it.

Karen, I love these little guys too. They had a choc/tan piebald sister, also very pretty.
They are all sold and living in their new homes. Will be repeating the breeding in the fall and hoping to get some more just like them. I wish I had kept the little girl, she is the one in first pic. She had such a beautiful personality. Just wanted you to know they are Walker babies and he throws alot of the extreme piebalds.
