Worried
I'm shipping Kali (formerly Ladybug) tomorrow on (at 14 weeks), and I'm just sick with worry about it. This will be my first shipping experience and I'm so concerned that she's going to be traumatized for life about it. I'm being ridiculous, I know, but I can't help it.
Re: Worried
Just tell the receiving party to give her lots of LOVE & reassurance when they see her even if she has poo'd in the crate tell them to take an extra towel and cuddle her up and give her lots of love
She will be fine
She will be fine
Re: Worried
She will be fine!!! Yes just make sure they sweet talk her and give her lots of lovins.....puppies do so much better than adults!!
I just shipped Bailey (2 yrs old) from Cleveland airport at 9:35am, he arrived in Houston at 11:41am, flew out of Houston at 3pm to arrive in Seattle WA at 5:35pm yesterday and he did great she said and he did great last night and is doing good today! Puppies do so much better flying than the adults normally!! Every pup I have ever flown came out tail wagging and full of kisses for the person letting them out!! Same with most of the ones I have received...a couple were a bit slower at warming up......but all did pretty great!!
Give her a tad of Karo before taking her to the airport to keep her sugar levels up!!! Tell them to give her a tad after they get her if it is a long flight!!

Re: Worried
Thanks guys. She's gotten shipped puppies before, so she's less concerned about it than I am
I've got her crate ready, with a dog appeasing hormone wipe for her bedding, plenty of shredded newspaper, and a kong filled with cream cheese in the freezer. Hopefully that will keep her occupied for a little while. I did her nails, trimmed her feet hairs, gave her a bath and swiped out her ears. She'll leave smelling like a rose, and probably arrive smelling like pee again, but I've done what I can

Re: Worried
Just a heads up.....they may or may not let her have the kong!! Sometimes I can sneak hide a toy in the crates and sometimes I can't!!

Don't let her have the kong. With the trauma of flying, it will make her ill. No matter what airline, they don't want that to happen anymore than we do. I never use shredded paper. I just layer newspaper in the crate. If they want it shreded, they will do it themselves. Also, gives them something to do. Your airline may not allow the shredded paper. Some don't because of eye issues. Be sure to send her dog food in a baggy and have the airline approved cups for food and water. Mine always have a layover and that's when they feed and water them.

Re: Worried
Contintental does allow and will put in shredded paper for you.....but I normally put in just plain newspaper on the bottom....and lay a blanket flat in there on top of the newspaper for the baby. No collar on them or toys or anything else is allowed normally in the crate for fear of them choking! Yes they feed & water mine also on their layovers! I do try to hide a small toy for them under the blanket for them to find....but I make sure it is something that they will not choke on or get sick from and I haver never had any problems flying a pup out yet.
The more you do it.....the easier and more confident you will get about it. I love Continental but only cause I have never had any issues with them EVER!! I fly pups in and out on it and older dogs. Delta is ok....I haven't had any issues with them either......but just knowing that they don't have a pet safe flying program bothers me just a bit when flying on and out of there!

Re: Worried
Well, it's a little late to change the Kong, but she did arrive safely. I wanted to use Continental, but they didn't have pet shipping available from Detroit to Albuquerque-something to do with no air under the plane? I'm guessing they were talking about pressurized cargo areas, but I don't know for sure.
Re: Worried
AWESOME to hear all went well I was thinking about this trip earlier! Thanks for the update
Re: Worried
Glad it went well Kathleen! Which airline did you end up using since Continental didn't fly pets where you needed?

Glad all went well. The first is the hardest. I use Continental, and not Delta. Have shipped several pups with them and never had any issues. We purchase a crate kit for shipping from our pet store in St. Joseph. Makes it easier. Continental puts the pups in the pressurized cabin, and not in the cargo dept. that's how they fly out of the Kansas City Airport.
