Conjunctivitis causes runny eyes in cats and dogs
Conjunctivitis is a frequent cause of discharge from a dog or cat's eyes. Conjunctivitis means that the conjunctiva, the pink tissue that surrounds the globe of the eye, is inflamed. There are many cuases of conjunctivitis, including:
* allergies (more common in dogs than cats)
* upper respiratory infections (more common in cats)
* foreign bodies

Don't forget, I didn't see in the article a mention on Kennel cough...sometimes cold in dogs will cause this. i did a quick look over and maybe they referred to dogs cold with another term. But, i didn't want to leave that one out.
I also think just being basically low to the ground can cause our breed to have constant eye irritation, especially if you live in a dusty climate with lots of wind.
