Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
Thank you! They are very sweet - an easy whelping (very wet), nice weights, a bit noisier and more active than usual litters (harder to take pics) plus Lexi isn't deathly thin like I was afraid she would be after all the pups - she is a tiny girl at 9 lbs I believe its the supplements I gave during pregnancy that made a big difference: Nr Birth Aid and a pregnancy formula (caulophyllum 30c, arnica 30x and sepia 30c) - it was suggested I use these supplements and boy am I glad I did. Even thought the black/tan pie girl was breach Lexi was able to push her out with no problem - the sacs were noticeably thicker (harder to break) too

Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
They are gorgeous babies!! I may look into those supplements....thanks!! Congrats on a sweet pie litter!!
Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
Thank you guys
Here they are almost 24 hrs old with better lighting against an all black background...
Enchanted Spring Blessings
Kismet
Karma
Chance
Serendipity
I was going to do an irish theme but I came up blank...Sires reg name is Verde Hills Wild Ride N Blue Thunder and the Dam's reg name is Verde Hills Shady Woods so the spring theme matches better but had to center their names around luck. In the pics of them "hung" I had a mirror to the side so I can see to let my son know when to take the pic so the light is amplified...Only Serendipity cooperated
I got the supplements here http://www.naturalrearing.com/coda/index.html#landing They have great articles about how/when to use each supplement. One of the people at my conformation classes told me about it. At first I was skeptical so started with reading a few of their articles then did more research looking up each complex, discussed their advice with a holistic vet in Anchorage and tried the NR Seaweed Mineral Food with wonderful results. I discussed the pregnancy formula and NR Birth Aid with a few people on my local email lists - they raved about it...one even said she has had an increase of c-sections since she stopped using them so I decided to give it a try ....This is the 3rd litter I have used it with ...it definitely works - its very noticeable when its used They recommend using the NR Birth Aid from gestation on but I was told by the holistic vet to wait until the 4th week before giving it daily - counting from first tie as the formula stimulates the uterus. I got Luna on the Tridex standard, Tridex PU200 and the stress/fear formula after I got her thyroid checked due to her acting crazy (easy going one minute, wild the next) in conformation classes....it works too

Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
They are all very precious lil ones but Karma really sticks out there doesn't she?
I am still new to the "hanging" method trying to see whats there - I am not sure how reliable it is but I figure worth a try ...Another one of my experiments Seeing them like this I think Karma and Chance are the ones to watch - Serendipity looks like her rear angulation is off and Kismets legs are much longer than the rest - its going to be interesting to see them as they grow..... What do you all think ?

Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
I have been trying to do the hanging thing too...the problem I have is that puppies squirm and want down so I can't get a good picture....I was wondering how long(to what age) should we check conformation by Hanging?
I like chance...He looks like a squirmy though ..lol..

Re: Lexi/Jax puppies
I have the same problem...they want to bundle up in a ball What I found was to take them out of the den, let them nurse on mom for about 10 minutes so they get nice full bellies, comfy and need sleep then pick one up cradling the neck with one hand, the butt with the other sliding your finger between their legs with the thumb on their tail and let them rest in that position til they fall asleep - some will stay asleep when you drop your hands away from their bodies while others need a quick 1, 2, 3 count...on 3 drop your hands away as the picture is being taken before they have a chance to "ball up"...if you don't have a picture taker, you can use the timer on the camera and your toe to activate it or lay them on a table, slide your fingers in position, wait til they give in then slowly lift. Either way once they get used to the sensation they will stay limp.
Its funny you said that about Chance...he didn't cooperate at all....no matter what - out of 10 tries that was the best picture. Next time i'll have to do it while they are still wet and tired from whelping - I heard thats the best time. Some do it once then at different intervals so they get used to being held that way for 8 week evaluations (Pat Hastings method). Many don't think anyone can really see their conformation this early as nutrition and environmental factors also plays a role in their development. Depending on the time of year, food given etc can all influence their growth patterns. Its interesting that human babies born here in the winter are bigger than down states..I am finding this to be true of dachshunds as well.....maybe thats another reason they are growing over-sized being born at very small weights? I am a long way from actually proving this theory though.
Since I like to chronicle everything I do it once a week to see their patterns of growth and changes to get more familiar with their combined lines then I gather the pics and make a "flipbook" to add to the new families slideshow dvd as everyone likes to see how they change and later really study the pics after they leave and emotions aren't so in control.

I love Karma too - what comes around goes around ...its a dumb show but My name is Earl was a fav because it was centered around that philosophy Seeing how this pup is all squirmy, vocal, stands out from the crowd and that heart on her forehead to me, her name suits her perfectly This has been a fun litter getting information from - I think even more so because the pressure is off on who to keep back - if only piebalds were more accepted - oh well I can still gather data for learning for future litters
